What We Are Called Out For

The climate here is mild with occasional freeze, which is gentler on doors than a lot of the country gets, but it still takes a toll on springs and rollers over a few decades of use. Torsion springs on double doors are a steady call - they wear out on a cycle count, not a calendar, and a house from the early 90s has usually put a lot of cycles through its original spring.

We also get called for openers that are stalling or reversing partway up, worn rollers that have started chattering in the track, and cables that have frayed enough to notice before they snap. Panel damage from a backed-into door comes in steadily too.

One honest limit: if a door is old enough and banged up enough that the frame itself is bent or the track is pulled away from the jamb, we'll tell you replacement is the better money, not another round of patch repairs. Throwing a new spring or roller at a door that's structurally done just delays the real cost and you end up paying twice. We'd rather say that upfront than quote a repair we know won't hold.

The Areas We Cover

We're based at 1222 Broadway in Columbus and work out from there. Our main call area sits close to home: is about 3 miles to the southwest is 5 miles north-northeast is 8 miles east-northeast. We also take calls out to Waverly Hall, roughly 15 miles off, and Hamilton, about 18 miles out.

Most of the houses we see sit in two named pockets built up through the 1980s and 90s, with the broader housing stock across the service area dating from 1972 to 2011 and a median build year around 1991. That matters more than people think. A door and opener installed when a house was framed in 1988 is not the same animal as one installed in 2009 - different spring wind, different opener mounting, sometimes different track width. We see both generations regularly because that's what's actually on the ground here.

The area runs about 862 households, with 592 of those in owner-occupied houses. That's a lot of original garage doors still hanging on original hardware, which is a good chunk of our service calls. We don't cover every town in the state and we're not going to pretend otherwise - if you're well outside the list above, give us a call and we'll tell you straight whether it's a trip we can make.

Questions

Frequently asked

Straight answers about garage door repair in Columbus. Still unsure? Ask us directly.

How old does a garage door spring usually get before it breaks here?

Torsion springs are rated for a number of open-close cycles, not years, but on houses from the 1980s-90s stretch of this area, that works out to roughly a decade or more of regular use before they give out. If your spring is original to a house from that era, it's a reasonable bet it's close to done.

Do you work on both older and newer garage doors?

Yes. The housing stock in this service area runs from 1972 up to 2011, so we see everything from original torsion setups on older houses to newer belt-drive openers and insulated doors on the later-built ones. The hardware differs enough by era that we always ask the age of the house before quoting.

Why won't you give me a price over the phone?

Because spring weight, door width, and drive type all change the job, and we haven't seen your door yet. We'd rather tell you the range once we know those details than quote blind and have the number move once a tech is standing in your driveway.

Do you install commercial or gate operators?

No. We work on residential garage doors and openers. Commercial roll-up doors and gate operators aren't something we've built the capacity to do well, so we'd rather point that out than take the job and figure it out on site.
